Shut Up Button

mood : sleepy
music : radiohead - subterranean homesick alien

Do you ever get tired of hearing yourself talk? I do. In class, when I answer questions or read.. I just want myself to stop talking. Does anybody really care what I have to say? Probably not.

However, it’s much more common for me to want other people to stop talking. This is why me and Liz have invented the “shut up button.” Whenever anybody has been talking for entirely too long or just plain says something stupid, the button is pushed. And by button, I mean a square drawn on a piece of paper that says “shut up” in the middle. =D There are several cool variations on the shut up button.. there is the “you’re cut button” and *pushes the button*

New Online Journal!

Ooh, ahh.. this is my new journal! I know it doesn’t look much different than my other one (I made it that way), but I can do anything I please with this one for free. Soon I’ll have pictures and other fun stuff on here. So until then, here’s a much needed new entry. (:

mood : happy
music : The Hippos - Wasting My Life

So I’m officially out of that crappy funk I was in. In fact I’m actually quite happy lately - I haven’t been able to say “I had a good week” in a while, but I did. (:

Do you want to hear about my week? Of course you do. =D On Wednesday night I went to see Reel Big Fish at the 9:30 Club with Katie, Steve, and Joe. The show opened up with The Kicks - they were pretty rockin’! The Starting Line played second, and they were pretty good too.. Rob introduced me to their music a while ago so I knew a lot of the songs. I like the song “Best of Me” a whole lot, but sometimes their songs are a bit too Blink 182ish for me. Finally Reel Big Fish played! They were great, although very very drunk! haha.. the lead singer Aaron was piss drunk. At one point he was playing a solo while laying on his back on the ground.. eventually he was like.. “I can’t play anymore.” And made Scott (the main backup/trumpet dude) play. That guy is amazing.. he sings ridiculously high, plays a trumpet thing, guitar, and got on the drums when their drummer got up to pee. haha.. all in all it was a really funny show. They played Beer (my favorite song) twice.. the first time they didn’t even get through it. I think Aaron had passed out on the ground about then. (: I got myself a badass poster for my wall, and a new pin for my collection. Yay!

Friday night KG played two shows. The first one was a b-day party for this dude who turned 16. That was pretty fun, except it was cold becuase we played outside. We got mad cake out of it, and had a good time. Later that night we played at Hal Daddy’s with Stupid Hero. That was fun too, I think the people there (aka Stupid Hero’s crowd) dug our music. Saturday night we played a show at the Catonsville YMCA. Nobody came to see us except my parents, Brian’s parents, and the guys from Velvet, but it’s all good. So although there weren’t too many people there, they all stood up for us and seemed pretty into the music. The band after us, Jandry, was pretty cool too.. They played Weezer covers which makes them automatically cool. haha.. We had a big crazy sing along to their cover of “Undone.” It was hilarious.. our whole band went up and sang with them. It was special. =D Afterwards we went to dinner with the guys from Velvet at Katie’s restaurant, The Blue Moon, in Fells Point. The guys from Velvet rule - they’re the funniest people I’ve ever met.. especially Joe B and Drew. It hurts to be around them because I laugh so much. Good times. (:

Sunday night me and Steve went to the Ottobar to see Midtown. That was lots of fun! I ran into my friend from elementary school/dance dynamics Kristen, and her friend Kristy. I’ve been running into them everywhere lately.. she seems to be at all the local shows I’m at. She’s a cool gal. Rob, Brian, and Luke from Stupid Hero were all there too so it was fun hanging out with all of them. There were a few random girls that were apparently at our North Glen Hall Show that were all like “We know you! We were at that show! You guys are good!” haha.. me and Steve felt all popular. =D The bands that played were all pretty good.. I missed most of the first band.. The Reunion Show was pretty cool.. they have a moog! Yay moog rock! I didn’t really like the band Recover who played 3rd.. they were a little too screamy for me. However, their guitarist looks like Jack Black. =D Midtown was rockin’, it was cool seeing them. Dylan got me into them a while ago… I don’t know any songs except the ones off of Save the World Lose the Girl, so I didn’t get to sing along the whole time.. but I had my moments. They played my fav song “No Place Feels Like Home” so that made me happy. (:

What with all of this stuff going on I wasn’t able to go home this weekend. Woo hoo, my first time not going home at all! So Sunday night me and my friend Chris from down the hall had a laundry party. It was fun! You should be proud of me - I didn’t go home, AND I did my laundry without messing anything up! These are huge accomplishments for my pathetic self. (:

So overall I had a pretty kickass weekend. It’s so much fun playing and going to all these shows. This week is looking pretty rad too… Two of my classes were cancelled this week, so that’s a big plus. Saturday I’m going to see The Anniversary at the Ottobar with the KG crew. Yay! (:

Current Mood: Positive

Current Music: Sev - Stand Straight

Why am I positive you ask? I’m POSITIVE that I NEVER want to have to work in an office all my life, and if I do I’ll kill myself. haha.. So maybe “positive” isn’t the right word.. maybe it is, as long it’s defined as “sure.” haha.. whatever. Anyway..

As you probably know I work in the office at Merriweather.. it’s not too shabby.. get paid 8.50.. mostly just sit around and laugh with the warehouse guys. However, today I went to RFK to help out one of my bosses. Not only is it the creepiest place ever, it’s hot as hell. There are NO WINDOWS.. I was going crazy. I’m sure it didn’t help that I was running on four hours of sleep, but it wasn’t fun. Just tedious work. Tax forms will be the death of me.

Really, I think the movie Office Space says it best. In fact.. I had an office space moment at work a few weeks ago. Sometimes the beloved p.o.s. fax machine likes to tell me there is a paper jam.. WHEN THERE IS NO PAPER! Anybody have a bat?

All work and no play makes Mandy a dull girl. =D

mood : happy!
music : KG - Not the End

haha.. yes, I do listen to my own band! (: I love them so much! Yaaay! We have practice tonight, I can’t wait! I looove practicing. Even better is that we have two shows this weekend. I’ll be revisiting Cafe Tattoo.. haven’t been there in a loong time. The last time I played there, Jake was still in Drone. That’s back in the day, sucka!

So today is the laziest day ever.. I only have one class on Wednesday that starts at 3:30, and it’s cancelled! bahaha.. I win. (: I slept til’ 12:00 then wrote my essay for the class. So I actually did do some work today. =D

I’m in a particularly good mood becuase yesterday I was flipping out about my music major crap as usual.. I setup lessons with Ms. Ewell and she seems really nice and positive. I start tomorrow! But the thing is.. it’s costing $560. I thought my parents were going to murder me. I mean, they don’t really want me to go into music.. so I thought they’d flip out when they found out how much it costs. I was planning on paying it all myself. So I emailed my mom all upset telling her the deal and was expecting them to flip out.. but she emailed me back a really nice note.

Mandy,

I support you on this. I talked to Dad and he agrees that it is no different than if we were paying for dance classes at Dance Dynamics. I think this is a good investment even if you were’nt trying to get into the music program.

Relax and enjoy your lessons.

Love

Mom

So that’s why I’m happy.. my mom at least half supports me. And I’m not gonna be broke! =D

Christin comes back to visit tomorrow! And Veronica will be back Saturday! Yaaay!! (:
