Relaaaax

mood : just waking up
music : Lucious Jackson - Naked Eye

So I think I’ve found a new favorite way for myself to relax. I’ve been hanging out at Xando lately. Xando is a really cute cafe in the city. Last night I went with Katie and we met her friend Chiara there to have a sewing circle (haha, yes a sewing circle..). I ordered a yummy hot apple cider, lounged back on one of their comfy booth seats, and started making a scarf for Veronica. Nice music played on the stereo, as I sat surrounded by artwork and warm lighting. We know our waitress, Julie. She’s really nice and puts up with us even though whenever we go there we end up staying for hours. She says she’s going to come to our Fletcher’s show. Yay! So anyway… We just sat and talked and worked on our scarfs (and dolls in Chiara’s case). Nothing to worry about and nothing to do except work on the scarf and sip hot cider. It was nice. (:

Christmas is Over

mood : content
music : The Getup Kids - I’ll Catch You

So I survived through Christmas.. it’s really hectic with my family, but it’s great seeing everybody. On Christmas Eve, somebody in the family has a party.. this year it was at my Aunt and Uncle’s, next year it will be here at my house. It was pretty boring because my cousins had their friends there and stuff.. and I don’t really like hanging out with the adults. I’m sorta at that awkward age where I don’t fit into either crowd. We played our annual gift swap game.. that was fun. Then the rest of the night I played Tony Hawk Pro Skater #whatever. Good times. (: I ended up staying up way too late on the computer so getting up the next morning wasn’t fun.

My mom woke me up at 8:00 in the morning, obnoxiously singing We Wish You a Merry Christmas. I almost killed her. Then she got all in my face and I almost punched her. It could’ve been messy. I’m really not a morning person, and she knows it. You should know it too, so I don’t punch you in the face. Because I will. (: So I got up and dragged myself downstairs to open presents. For the first time so long it actually snowed on Christmas morning! It was beautiful.. kinda bad though becuase we had to drive in it. But that’s later. So I opened my presents. Got a lot of fun stuff including a lovely digital camera and a down comforter. Woo hoo! I was happy. Then my parents opened their gifts and we opened our stockings. Before we went to get changed to go to my grandma’s house, my dad was like “My sinuses are really bothering me, can you get me a sinus tablet?” So I went in the bathroom and there is an instrument case wrapped up on the floor!! I almost peed myself. They got me a new bass! I couldn’t friggin’ believe it.

It’s a 4-stringed Warwick Streamer Stage 1. It is soooo sexy. I’ve been wanting a Warwick for a while now, but I have two basses, and I couldn’t afford one. They’re really expensive, but they’re really really nice. My dad had asked me a while ago, if I would ever replace my 4 string, what would I want? I told him a Warwick, but that would be down the road since they were so expensive. So a few days later, he came across an ad in the newspaper for a used Warwick!! He checked it out and ended up getting it. I guess this bass was just meant to be for me! (: It’s in perfect condition and it’s wonderful. I’m so excited about it. (:

Sorry, I’ll stop blabbing about that and finish up. We drove in the snow to my Grandma’s.. it was pretty bad. And then we got 3/4 the way there and realized we forgot some important gifts. My dad got all pissed off and drove all the way back. I’m surprised that’s the only time he got pissed off. =D When we finally got to my dad’s parents’ we had a big yummy breakfast. Afterwards we opened presents, and then headed off to my mom’s mom’s house. Then finally I got to go home and SLEEP.

I hung out with Veronica, Liz, Ryan, and Sheila that night. We watched Goldmember.. hehe funny. “It looks like a baby’s arm holding an apple!” bahaha… It was good hanging out with all of them. (:

Back into Battle

mood : annoyed
music : The Starting Line - Best of Me

Ah, freedom.. the thought of it was too good to be true. Now I’m back, just where I started last summer. A midnight curfew for an 18 year old college student. What. The. Hell.

Tonight my mom was like, “Could you do me a favor and come home at 12 tonight?” Did she really think she could get away with this crap? I fought and bickered and then Dad said “Well why don’t you just live somewhere else!” and went into “I don’t care” mode. “I don’t care” mode means he really cares.. but he’s just fed up with me. So I came home tonight at 1:15AM. =D

It’s not like I’ve ever gotten in any trouble, and it’s not like I’m a friggin’ child anymore. I spent a semester at Towson, and they never waited up for me. It’s just ridiculous. I understand that they’re worried and it’s hard for them, but they have to let go. And it’s not like I don’t care.. I let them know where I’m going, and I call them to let them know what’s going on. I could be a bastard and not even do that, but I respect them so I give them that much.

They got over it during the summer, and even during the semester they got over it. I even had that post where I had one the war! They just can’t start this crap again. I know I’m being angsty, but I think I have a right in this case. Even my friend that is my age who got caught coming home drunk recently has a punishment of a 1:00AM curfew. I mean, it’s lame that he has a curfew at all.. but 12? Bah!

Home Again

mood : sleepy
music : Tool - Aenima

So it’s day 3 of being back home, and I haven’t tried to kill anybody yet. (: I haven’t really been here all that much because we’ve had shows and I’ve spent the night places.. So I haven’t had to deal with too much. My mom was waiting up for me when I got home tonight at 12 after practicing over Brian’s house.. that irks me, but since she didn’t say anything or give me any crap, I’ll let it go.

Friday night we plays at Hasslingers and it was one of our most depressing shows ever. There were only about 9 people that stayed to watch us. We had to beg them to come close to us, and all they did was sit on the floor. Even the majority of the bands ditched us and lit things on fire outside. Note to self: Playing last sucks unless you actually have fans.

Saturday’s show at the Catonsville YMCA was 20x better, thankfully. We had a blast. There were a bunch of people there, and some actually came to see us! The other bands were cool too. I believe it was the Decency Squad that was a super classic rock band.. they did a mean U2 - With or Without You cover. And we finally got to see our friends Knox Harrington play as a whole band. Afterwards we went out for pizza and visited our lovely friends from Velvet. Good times. (:

Winter Break Is My Hero

I had my last final today in Pre-Calc. It went pretty well I think, considering I only didn’t know how to do one problem. So now it’s over a month of relaxing for me! Woo hoo! What a great feeling haha.. I’ve come to acceptance that I have to move back home, but I’ve decided it won’t be so bad becuase I have my car. I just need to try not to be an angsty college girl while I’m home. “MOM I’M IN COLLEGE, DON’T TALK TO ME. JESUS!” haha..

I have a mock audition this Saturday with my flute teacher’s husband who just happens to be one of the chairs of the music department at Towson. Hopefully he’ll put in a good word for me if it goes well. I’m nervous even though it’s not the real thing, but it will be a good practice for my audition on January 11th. I think I’m just about ready, so now I just need to get used to playing for people.

So tonight we’re having band practice and our producer guy is coming to watch us. I’m so friggin’ excited about this recording. I’m nervous about recording my parts though. And it figures, he’s a bassist too, so I feel like I have to prove myself even more. hehe.. ah well, the ep is gonna rock and I can’t wait. (:

Almost Done (part II)

mood : happy
music : No Motiv - So Long

Alright.. so I have Leadership out of the way, and now English is completely done. I turned in my papers today. That was a cool class. I think it was the first English class I’ve ever really enjoyed. So in about 20 minutes I’ll be officially skipping my pre-calc class.. I know I know.. I should go.. but I don’t wanna. I have it tomorrow too so it’s not like it’s the last class. Plus, we’re just reviewing and he already gave us a sheet. I’d rather review in the comfort of my own dorm room. I went to modern this morning. That should count for something, since that’s the class I like the least. It’s weird though, the professor has been complimenting me lately and noticing when I do stuff right. Usually he just ignores me or tells me I’m doing something wrong. Ah well.. almost over. My final is Wednesday, but it might as well be a class becuase he doesn’t want an “official” final. Whatever.. then my written ballet exam is after that.. and that I do need to study for. Blah blah blah.. I’m rambling. I’m gonna take a nap now. =D

Classes/Finals Left:

Modern Dance Final
Ballet Dance Final
Ballet Written Final
Pre-Calc (one class)

P.S. ~ You know how when you start looking at a word too long.. like final.. it starts looking like you spelled it wrong? Weird. =D

Almost Done..

Ahh.. Classes are almost over. I had my last Leadership class today, which doesn’t have a final. It’s been a pretty painful class at times but overall I had fun. I’m glad it’s over though. The best part is I got an A! I’m so happy! Now I’d like to get A’s in all my other classes as well.. haha. The only classes I’m worried about are my dance ones, becuase you don’t really get work back to judge how you’re doing. So we shall see.. Tomorrow is my last English class, and I don’t have a final for that one either. Just a paper to turn in by 3:30, and I’m done. (:

I’m really glad classes are ending. The likelyhood of me skipping is becoming greater and greater.. However, I’m not really looking forward to moving back home for winter break. I really love it here in my dorm, and I love not having to deal with my parents all the time. My parents are great, but they drive me insane. Hopefully they’ll be less pain in the ass now that I’m in college. It seems like that’s already the case. I just hope it lasts through break.

Mother Fuck Crabby Dicks!

mood : frazzled
music : Midtown - Just Rock N Roll

Sorry for the lack of writing. I tend to not write when I get stressed out.. even though it should probably be the opposite since writing is a release. I’m just starting to get stressed over finals and my audition. I broke down crying today during my lesson, because I got all frustrated with myself. I just need to relax. Too bad it’s easier said than done. But however stressed I may be, I’m really happy. I love college, and I love my band. Speaking of my band, I never wrote about our show at the Ottobar on Monday the 25th. It was so great…

On the way to the show, Katie and I were all excited about playing at the Ottobar. I mean this is our favorite place to go see bands, and not only were we playing there, but we were playing with fairly big bands. So anyway.. I was waving around a CD visor thing and I accidently hit myself in the head with it.. and took a chunk of skin out of my forehead. I still have a mark from it. haha.. I am such a loser. (:

So we got there and brought our stuff in. I spent like 10 minutes practicing jumping off the monitors on the empty stage. Am I not the biggest nerd ever? So later while we were just waiting around a guy came in and introduced himself to us. He was like “Hi! I’m from Fairview!” Me and Katie gasped loudly, being the big nerds we are. haha.. the reason we wanted to play this show was because of Fairview. They’re really awesome. They were really nice too.. we talked to them and hung out most of the time at the merch table with Grace, their keyboard player. The other bands were really nice too. Especially Perry from Nerf Herder.

So we played around 8:00pm. We were all really nervous, but I think it went well. I wasn’t feeling it on the stage, but we had a big crowd which was very cool. The sound on stage was real crappy, but everybody said it sounded fine out in the crowd. When we watched the tape afterwards, it sounded better and we played pretty well. I unfortunately didn’t get to jump off of any of the monitors, because I realized if I stood on one of them, the audience would have a nice view up my skirt. Maybe I’ll figure out how to do it one day. (;

Afterwards we got a really good reaction. It’s such a great feeling to have people compliment your band and especially your playing. We were real nervous about being an opening band becuase local opening bands have a pretty bad rep. A lot of them aren’t really that good, so we really wanted to try and prove ourselves. It was awesome to hear from people that we were the bet opening band they’ve seen in a while, and some liked us better than some of the main acts. What’s even cooler is when bands that are way bigger than you are incredibly nice and say that your band is really good. Perry even said that once we get our demo done, he’ll try and hook us up with bands in California that we’d sound good with. Ahh! So cool! (:

Fairview played after us and they were incredible! I love their CD, but their live show was AMAZING. They were soo good, it sucks more people don’t know them. It was funny becuase I think we were the only people in the crowd who knew their songs. They dedicated two songs to us, and one of them was my favorite song “Chinese New Year.” Yay! I can’t wait until they come around again, I hope we get to play with them another time. Ultimate Fakebook was rockin’. I like their style - they remind me a whole lot of a little more punk rock Elvis Costello. Nerf Herder was headlining the tour and they were great! They were friggin’ hilarious. They spent the whole show complaining about their bad experience at the restaurant, Crabby Dicks, in Fells Point. At one point Perry pulled out a keyboard thing and dedicated “Welcome to My World” to us and Fairview since we had keyboards. It was a rockin’ show!

So after the show was over I got all the guys from Fairview to autograph my poster. (I’m a NERD) It was silly.. the lead singer, Bobby, took forever writing on mine. He was like “I have to sign it like a year book, it’s not like you’re a stranger!” So we finally left and went to dinner at the paper moon. 10 minutes later Nerf Herder and Fairview show up! It was crazy. They invited us to pull our table over but it was bolted to the ground haha. So they just came over and harassed us for our french fries. Later on they yelled over from their table, “Got anymore fries?” So we threw fries over at them… It was hilarious. Fries are flying everwhere and they’re sitting there trying to catch them in their mouths. They were particularly bad at catching them too. haha.. so much fun. (:

So, our first big show at the Ottobar was a blast. In the words of Drew from Velvet.. “That was BANGIN’!”
