never too much radiohead..

Okay, I do have an explanation for the extreme amount of Radiohead. I have an alarm clock on my computer, that uses mp3s… and Radiohead is a nice, relaxing thing to wake up to. So, I have to listen to it once before to make sure it’s at a good volume.. then it goes off in the morning.. and I set it again for a little bit later.. and it goes off again. (:

on break between classes

Yeah, I should post more but I’m a busy girl damn it!

I just got out of my music theory class. We had to “improv” on our instruments today, displaying all the different ways we can change the “timbre” of it. Timbre is a fancy word that means tone color. I don’t like it because it’s pronounced “tamber” and it looks like it should be pronounced “timber.” My lesson was cancelled today so I have until 12:30 to hang around.

Yesterday was my first upright bass lesson. I am so in love with it! It takes a lot of strength in your hand, but that’s something that will come with practice. Other than that, it’s not hard since I already know a lot from playing bass guitar. I have to make sure I don’t pluck it like a bass guitar though.. instead of using the tip of your finger, you have to use your whole finger and move from the wrist and arm. My instructor is really nice, it’s so fun! One really good thing is that I’m going to have to learn all the notes up the neck, which I’ve never gotten around to on bass guitar. I know the first 5 frets on each string very well but the rest I’m pretty fuzzy on.. I usually just play by ear rather than knowing the note. So the lessons will help me with all of my bass skills.

The only thing is that I have to go to master class with all the other bassists.. I’m nervous about that since I’m so behind them all, not to mention I have to come late because of class conflicts. But I don’t think he’ll make me play for them like I have to in my flute master class.. I hope. (: I sort of know some of the bassists, so it shouldn’t be too bad. They’re pretty nice, but they tease me a lot. All in good fun. (:

will this ever end?

Okay, change of plans again. It looks like being a bass major is going to be more trouble than it’s worth because of the music education thing. So my plan right now is to continue my major in music education as a flute player. However, I have been accepted by one of the bass teachers for bass lessons this semester. haha.. remember that talking about $560? Yeah.. we have to pay it again becuase the bass lessons aren’t going towards my major. Isn’t that some crap? I talked to my dad and his cool with it believe it or not… he’s not thrilled with it… but he’s cool with it. =D

So anyway, I will basically be doing the flip of what I wanted to do.. instead of being a music major on bass and taking flute lessons on the side, I will be taking bass lessons on the side. Frankly at this point I don’t really care. I’m too stressed to deal with this crap, I almost broke down crying in front of several different people today. So, the good news is I’m learning how to play the standup! Wee!

Totally unrelated.. this weekend I saw the Pietasters at Goucher College. It was free and soo much fun. The Pietasters rocked my socks, it was the first time I’ve seen them live. It reminded me so much of when I used to go to ska shows early on in high school, because it was such a small intimate show. Everybody was just dancing and having fun, and the music was great! I can’t wait to go to brit pop night.. screw going clubbing when you can go to fun dancey things that involve good music that you actually like! (:
