bye bye spring break…

Well, spring break is coming to an end. Unlike the majority of my dumb classmates, I didn’t go to some tropical place and party myself stupid. I just stayed home all week and relaxed. I was severely burnt out from school to the point where I actually missed home. It’s kind of funny that this semester I’ve tried to avoid home, and ended up missing it. I guess it’s better than being there too much and hating it. It was also really nice to see my best friends from high school.

Thursday was particularly noteworthy. Our ex-bosses invited Veronica, Jen, and myself to dinner downtown, so we decided to make a day of it. The only person we were missing was Christin - her spring break was last week. ):

We went to the Aquarium becuase V hasn’t ever been there before. It was fun.. the seahorse exhibit was sweet. Otherwise it’s pretty much the same as I remembered. Except they don’t have the petting pool! What the hell?! That was the coolest thing ever.. you know, where you could pick up starfish and horseshoe crabs. Damn the man!

Anyway.. afterwards we walked around harborplace for a bit, then to Fells Point. We went to the Soundgarden (so I could eye up CDs to start replacing my lost collection) and then made our way back. We met J and Maria (our bosses) at McCormick & Shmick, and then possibly had the best dinner I’ve ever had. I can’t even stress how good everything was. We got fried calamari (perfect consistency, not chewy whatsoever), crab wontons, and crab & artichoke dip for appetizers. For my meal I got shrimp stuffed with lump crab meat, sitting in imperial sauce. Dessert was equally as fabulous. We got 3 different things and shared. We got a sundae, an apple pie type thing a la mode, and the best bread pudding I’ve ever had. Everything was delicious, however quite pricey. Lucky for us, J was treating us all. (:

It was such a fun evening. We all shared our college stories, and laughed the whole time. Maria has the funniest stories. In order to get one of her messy roommates back, she sewed all of her dirty clothes that were laying all over the room together. When the girl came home and tried to put her pjs on, she found that they were sewn to the ladder of her bunk bed. I can’t believe she actually did that! Ah, good times..

boo hoo

Argh, I lost 30+ of my favorite CDs as well as the new visor case I put them in. I must have the worst luck when it comes to losing things. I’m pretty sure somebody stole them at the show on Saturday. It was an all day affair so there was plenty of time for them to be snatched. It figures, I brought them so we could listen to on the hour drive to bumfuck and it turned out the person who was driving didn’t have his CD player. So I didn’t even get to use them. AND NOW THEY’RE GONE. Guess I have to start buying CDs again.. I need a job first. All of my money is going towards shows.. *shakes an angry fist at expensive rock and roll*

will this week ever end?

Well, as of yesterday I can add nervous breakdown number 2 during a flute lesson. Ugh, I’m doing too much and I can’t handle it. I learned my lesson for next semester.. but until then I might freak out several times. You know it’s bad when you’re walking across the street and think, “Hey, it would be nice if that car hit me.” Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to die at all.. I’m worried enough about that as it is becuase of all this war crap. But even spending a few days in the hospital seems like a nice vacation right now..

x marks the spot

I think maybe I should just permanently tattoo x’s in my hands.. I constantly have them becuase of all the shows I go to and play. Last semester people started thinking I x’d my hands myself to be cool or something. Oh, but the best is when you wake up and you have one that transfered over to your face. I had a few of those this morning.. rock. haha..

Last Thursday I went to the Mates of State/Rainer Maria show. It was pretty rockin’. I’ve been wanting to see Mates of State for a while. My best friend Veronica was always singing their songs, so I knew a lot of them. It was my second time seeing Rainer Maria. I like their new stuff, it’s so much more rock than before. They didn’t play a whole lot of it this time around, but that’s a good thing for the loyal fans.. it always sucks when a band plays all new stuff.

Saturday was our show at the Depot. We decided to give the place another chance, but yet again the show pretty much sucked. It’s just never good to play clubs when more than 3 or 4 bands are booked. It ran really late, and Steve got his car towed.. not to mention it was in a shady ass neighborhood. It seemed shadier than last time, I suppose becuase it was on a weekend rather than during the week. All the clubs and bars were letting out and it wasn’t a pretty sight. But hey, we made $3.00! =D

anarchy burger! hold the goverment!

Guess I’ll have to go to the cafeteria and get some freedom fries… *dies laughing*

Hmm… What’s that? The job of congress is to make important decisions regarding our government and country? Really?? Oh, that must’ve slipped my mind while waiting for them to decide WHAT TO RENAME FRENCH FRIES!

sampler

My band has released two of the 5 unmastered songs that will be on our upcoming EP. I play bass in all of them (obviously) and sing backup vocals in “Not the End.” Check ‘em out.. let me know what you think.

i am such a music nerd…

Tuesday is my birthday, the big 1-9. Ha.. I got an AKG Wireless system for my bass from my parents. I can’t wait to try it out! It’ll be nice to not have to worry about a cord being too short or getting caught up in a long cord. Now I can rock out without any interference. =D It’s cool becuase it doesn’t have a body pack like most wireless systems. It’s a new one and it just has a little transmitter that goes straight into the basses output jack. I’m not sure how well it will stay in there, but there’s nothing some tape can’t fix. (:

Upright lessons are going great. I’m learning to bow now. I’ve made the decision that I definately do want to switch over to bass as my primary instrument. I just have to figure out exactly how I’m going to do it. Both of the upright teachers are already teaching me, so they said there’s no real point in me auditioning… but the secretary and my advisor say otherwise. Oh well, we’ll see. I’m really excited.. I’m loving being a music major. (:

too much snow

Wow, haven’t posted an entry in a long while. I’ve just been so busy with everything. I’ve been snowed in at different places and classes keep getting cancelled, so now my teachers are panicking to cover the material. I’m ready for spring and summer! But then again I’ve been ready since the fall..

My band finally finished recording our 5 song EP. The last night of mixing was ridiculous, I’ve been thrown off all week because of it. We went to the studio and started mixing one song at 10:30. Didn’t get finished that one until 2am… but we still had one song to go, and we needed to get it all done that night. So, we went to sleep for a few hours while our producer dude did the preliminary mixing for the last song. Three hours later he called us up, and we headed back in at 5am. I didn’t get back to school until 7 that morning. It was pretty rough, and although it was snowing, it didn’t snow enough to cancel my day classes. What can I say.. you gotta do it for the rock. =D

It looks like I might be getting an upright bass sooner than I thought. One of my professors is selling one for $2000, which is a good price if it’s in excellent condition like he says it is. My dad said he’d contact the guy and look into it. I feel so bad though, because it’s so expensive… they just bought me a new bass for Christmas ($800), they’re paying for the mastering of our CD (somewhere possibly close to $1000), and I’m going to have to get a new flute if I stay on flute as a primary instrument (ridiculously expensive). I feel like I don’t deserve it… I mean I’m not complaining, I’m really happy becuase I couldn’t handle working during school. But I feel like I haven’t worked for it. Poor Joe is saving up all of his money so he can get a new drumset, meanwhile I’m getting instruments handed to me left and right. I guess I can justify the upright and the flute becuase they’re for my school stuff, but I still feel bad. *shrug* What can ya do..
