take me home, country roads

So KG played their first out of state show yesterday… in West Virginia! haha.. Oh man, I wish I could’ve taken pictures of all the funny things I saw, but I had to drive/didn’t have my camera ready. I saw no less than THREE tractor crossing signs. One would’ve been enough to make me laugh for the day, but I saw them again and again (like cats?)! =D I also saw a garage nicely decorated with 3 antelope skulls. tehehe..

Anyway, the town we played in was actually really nice. It was near Harpers Ferry so it was all historic and cute like old Ellicott City or even New Market. However, we were quickly reminded we were in West Virginia when the pizza place had “Big Buck Hunter” as one of their arcade games. It’s okay though, becuase the other game was the old school mortal combat style X-Men game and it was only a quarter! Woo hoo!

The show was a blast, we had a lot of fun. We got a great response from the crowd and got 15 new emails for our mailing list. That’s really good for a fairly small show. It was at an old train station, turned into a community hall. The train ran right behind it, and we put pennies on the track so they’d get squished, but a train didn’t come all evening.. but then! Right before we left I saw the train gates start blinking and we all ran over to it! It took us a while but we found the pennies, and IT WAS THE COOLEST THING EVER. haha.. I’m so easily amused.. and such a loser.. I tried to take a picture of the pennies but I can’t figure out how to get a good one without a glare becuase I suck. =D

our music will rock your butt

So yeah, I didn’t think it was possible to have the completion of our CD anymore delayed becuase of disaster, but it has happened yet again. Let me give you a little history..

We started recording the album in mid January. One of our singer’s voice got pretty messed up (who has his own song). It was only getting worse, and he ending up finding out that he had acid reflux disease, conveniently right in the middle of recording. So when we finished mixing the CD, he decided he’d pay to redo his vocals. About a month passed and we still weren’t able to get time in the studio, and during the end we couldn’t get in touch with our producer. It turns out his grandmother died, so he was away for a while. We finally got in the studio a few weeks ago and redid his song (which turned out great by the way).

So we’ve been waiting for the mastered copy to come back from the expensive ass guy we sent it to in California. It was only supposed to be a week, and it’s been about three. Yeah.. we definately just got word that the guy was in the middle of our recording and his ass exploded or something. He had to go to the hospital for an emergency colonoscopy! Sweet huh?

trip to philly

I had a really good night. Not too bad of a day either. I went to bed really late last night (thursday) because we played a show, so getting up this morning to practice for my sight-singing exam wasn’t too cool. I think I was a half asleep through most of it becuase I can’t really remember getting up or practicing. haha.. fortunately I aced the test. I totally lucked out becuase I’m not very good at sight-singing… I only did well because he let me pick an example out of the book to do (so I guess it wasn’t really sight-singing haha.. but the solfeg is still hard, so shut up).

I also had my last flute recital probably ever at 1, which went well. I think I’ve gotten over my fear of playing the flute for people. It’s weird becuase that’s the only thing I’ve ever been really nervous with. Dance, bass, even singing never really bothered me. It was cool, even after not playing for anybody since my piccolo solo in Stars & Stripes in my last high school band concert (besides my TU audition), I didn’t shake at all, I was totally relaxed. Too bad I’m not really going to be playing it anymore haha.. So after the recital (during which I had to struggle to keep my eyes open while everyone else was playing) I promptly took a nap. I slept for a long time, and it was good, although I had some weird dreams.

We were originally planning on going to see The Faint on Thursday night, but we ended up getting the show at The Ottobar so we couldn’t really pass it up. Instead we decided to go tonight in Philly at The Trocadero, so Greg, Steve and Jamie picked me up around 7. You’ve gotta understand that I’ve been pretty sheltered, so I’ve never been pretty much anywhere without having some kind of school or parental supervision. So I was all excited to go to Philladelphia on my own (sort of).. I’ve only been there once for a school trip in like middle school. It was also really exciting because my best friend Veronica goes to Drexel, and she was able to get tickets and meet us there at the show.

The show rocked! The Trocadero is such a cool place. It’s basically a really cool old-looking theatre, I don’t know the history behind it but I imagine it was used for that. I think they show movies there still. Anyway… we missed the first opener but saw the second, Les Savy Fav. They were pretty crazy.. their singer was nuts. They had some decent songs, I’ll have to check out their recorded stuff.

So, it was my first time seeing The Faint, but I’d been introduced to their music a while ago and totally dug it. What’s better than dancey rock techno stuff? Seeing it live! It was basically just a big fun dance party, although I was sort of on the outskirts so it wasn’t as big-fun-dance-party as I’d like it to have been. Nevertheless, they rocked and the show was good. They were really tight and were fun to watch. It was totally worth driving to Philly for!

Afterwards we dropped V off at her dorm, and I got to see it and the campus for the first time. I’ve been wanting to come visit her all year so it was cool to finally get to. I got to meet a few of her floor mates and stuff. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay becuase I wouldn’t be able to get home.. hopefully I’ll be able to visit again before she gets out (which shouldn’t be a problem becuase she’s just now doing midterms.. ha ha..)

Yay for good times. (:
