gimme an a!

Ahh.. a night off. Thanks to the snow, the opera I’m playing in is cancelled along with the show at the Talking Head I was supposed to play with the KG tonight. I’ve got a bit of a cold, so I’m glad I got to rest up. I ended up finishing my music history paper on Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. *makes geeky retainer noises*

So, only 3 weeks of school yet… and even better… 2 weeks until my 21st birthday! Yay yay yay! I can’t wait. I’ll be spending the weekend in Nashville to celebrate with Wyatt. I’m very excited to see Second Saturday play, it’s been forever! Then I get to celebrate with my family and friends when I get back! Yay!

I have an 8am class tomorrow and Towson doesn’t seem to ever cancel/delay classes anymore so I’m going to head off to bed.

mo’ money mo’ problems

So we didn’t realize it but our guitar head was stolen along with my bass head. Wow, this really sucks. The band just doesn’t have that kind of money to spend at all. We’re going to try and arrange a benefit show after we get back from tour so we can raise the money for new heads.

Be sure to watch the whole thing and if you’re a drummer, you better take notes.

rise and shine!

Mmm, I love sleeping in really late. I don’t get to do it too often lately. Only one more month of school until I get out early for summer! Then I go on tour in April, and vacation with Wyatt later in the summer. Woo hoo!

But now it’s time to eat lunch, to watch Rachel Ray, and to work on my history paper on Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5! =P

belly fizz criminal

Recording was fun, but the weekend ended very quickly. I haven’t had a chance to update becuase as soon as I got back I was thrown into busy school mode again. I’ve got a few papers and projects due so I haven’t had much time.

Anyway, recording went really well. I finished my bass tracks in one day. I’m pretty happy with all of them and I think we got a good sound. The bass on our EP is so unnoticable and flat, but I think this time around it will have some personality. I finished all but two of my vocals on Saturday, and the rest on Sunday. I think they sound good, we did a lot of doubling which is super hard. I don’t have a lot of experience with doubling but I’m proud of myself for not taking a million years to do it. I’m always kind of wary about my vocals overall so I’ll have to hear them again to decide how much I like them haha.

Recording downtime was fun too. It was nice getting to see Wyatt, but not the same as usual since it was mostly business. It was nice seeing my band too, it’s surprisingly lonely without them calling me every five minutes hehe. Katie, Wyatt, and I went to our favorite mexican place “House Party” on Saturday night. When I’m 21 next month I plan on getting their giant margarita haha. Sunday we went to our favorite Indian restaurant. Mmm… I love me some palak paneer!

*insert hick voice* tennesseeeeeeeeeee!

After classes today I will be leaving to go to Nashville and record my parts of our new album. I can’t wait, I love recording! I’ve got a few fun, new bass lines up my sleeve to spice things up, thanks to my lovely producer/boyfriend Wyatt. We worked on making the more repetitive songs/lines a little bit more interesting and I think it’s going sound great. I’m excited about recording my vocals in good health too, unlike on the demos where I could barely talk much less sing! Anyway… off to musicianship class I go.

it’s not considered stealing, unless you’re getting caught

I found out tonight that my bass head unit was stolen from our van the other night in Nashville. One of the windows recently started popping out as a result of last years van flip, and the dudes popped it out the rest of the way and got in the van. Joe’s drums were in there too, he’s damn lucky they weren’t taken (especially considering he’s borrowing them from somebody).

That would include my $600 head, my power conditioner ($100ish?), and my $280 wireless unit, plus the rack case on it’s own is like 50 bucks. Needless to say I’m not too happy about it. I’m just glad nothing else got taken. I would probably die if my bass was stolen.

The band is going to buy me another amp to replace it, but it sucks because that’s just more money that we don’t really have at the moment.

Bleh.

its uncertain what fate holds

I’m officially done with my first song contributed to KG. I found out last night that we’re going to demo it out at the studio, while we’re recording the full length. I got all excited and inspired so I spent all night adding harmonies throughout and writing vocals for the bridge. I think it’s going to turn out pretty decent.

can’t sleep in the city, you’re far away

The band will be arriving in Nashville today to start recording our full length album. I’m stuck in school until next weekend, and I’m pretty jealous about it, but it will be a lot of fun when I get there. I wish I could be there for the whole thing, but I know it’s going to turn out great. It’s just not fair my whole band and my boyfriend get to hang out and have fun without me. ): Oh well. I’m still excited.

We’re planning a tour for April with friends of ours called A Perfect Kiss, so that will be fun. We’re the proud owners of a trailer for our equipment so hopefully the van will be less cramped and a little more comfortable. I’m looking forward to going on tour again, I hope it turns out to be a good one. We’re playing with Second Saturday a bunch so I’m very excited about that as well. (:
